Special eye care for special kids
Eyecare is free for 0-19s in full time education.
We use a Canon Auto-refractor for a child's first visit as recent research at Children of the 90s (Avon longitudinal study) showed that from age two and a half it will pick up 90% of a child's Rx in a few seconds with no pain or drugs. The child does not need to know letters or speak English. We have numerous other child friendly tests to help investigate your child's vision as well as advice on visual hygiene which improves reading speed, helps fight study fatigue and slow short-sightedness.
Kid's frames.
We have a wide variety from free to designer frames for all age groups. We can fit silicone curl sides to standard metal frames to keep them in place. We can supply swimming goggles with your childs prescription.
Sunglasses
Sunglasses are very important for your youngster. We have the Baby Banz sunglasses and junior Raybans for your childs protection. Don't forget a brimmed hat in the hottest weather too.
Contact lenses.
Children from about age seven are suitable for contact lenses although babies and toddlers are routinely fitted at some Eye Hospitals. Children are usually very good at handling and taking care of their lenses and a recent survey showed that they are better than most adults! With rugby and ballet etc. they certainly have more need. Our Contact Lens Optician spends time making sure your child is confident in handling the lenses before they are allowed to try them at home.
