We lead the way with eyecare technology

Optos Optomap

Optos Optomap is our brand new retinal imaging tech. It takes a massive 200-degree image of the back of your eye enabling our optometrists to see a much wider field of view. It is much quicker than our visucam and more patient-friendly. It is highly recommended by our team here at Juul & Payne.

Zeiss OCT Eye Scan

An OCT scan is similar to an MRI scan for the eyes. The test is very simple, takes just a few seconds and is completely non contact; there are no sudden puffs of air or light flashes. Using OCT our Optometrist can pick up any problems at a much earlier stage, usually allowing you better treatment options and a better visual outcome.

Zeiss FDT

The Humphrey FDT Perimeter uses Frequency Doubling Technology to provide a fast means of detecting early visual field loss. The FDT is the ideal for your visual field screening because it only 35 seconds per eye and is simple to use.

The Topographer is used with our most advanced contact lens decisions. The cornea (the clear tissue on which your contact lens sits) may look smooth and regular, but in fact both its shape and texture are irregular. Just as no two fingerprints are the same, neither are two eyes. The Topographer gives a map that digitally describes your cornea.

The Intuitive Colorimeter Instrument is used to find the precision tint which can help Visual Stress associated with Dyslexia. When looking at a printed page, a dyslexic can find patterns in the print which move, or the words appear to lift off the page. Looking at a random set of words the colorimeter allows different colour lights to be shone on the page and to see if this effect disappears. The colours can be mixed of hundreds of varying hues and density to get the most accurate result which can then be made up with a pair of tinted glasses. We can also supply coloured overlays which lay on a page of white print. Contact us for more details.

Auto Refractor

Simple and quick to use, it can predict the finished spectacle prescription, check for cataracts, and measure the shape of the cornea ready for contact lens fitting. Because it's painless and has a pretty picture, even small children love trying it. As well as many other useful pieces of equipment to test every aspect of your vision and how it interacts with your brain.

We use dynamic 3D measurements, your eyecode and the dimensions of the chosen frame to make a bespoke lens for you. Aimed at Varilux varifocal lenses this technology can also be used with your single vision lenses. The visioffice equipment will also allow us to photograph you with your choice of frames to make your selection easier.

This year is our suite of Zeiss equipment, which enables us to measure and photograph your eyes. The Visucam takes and records digital photographs of the back of your eye. The instrument also measures of the amount of pigment on the macula at the back of your eye. Low macular pigment density is a risk factor for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Along with your medical history, this measurement can provide valuable information so that we can offer lifestyle advice for a nutritional diet and or supplements if necessary, thereby minimizing the risk of losing visual sensitivity with increasing age.
